This single barrel Texas Rye Whisky really blew our hair back this summer when we first sampled a number of private barrel options with the fine folks at Balcones. This boasts loads of spice up front, accented with notes of marmalade, old leather, cocoa, and hazelnut. At more than 126 proof it packs a lot of flavor, but the alcohol never feels overwhelming. It takes a splash of water to fully open up and show its full array of character. Orange peel, chocolate, toasted rye, and oak spice round out this complex beauty.
