Taylor Fladgate were the first English Port shippers tovisit the Douro Valley for the purpose of buyingwine and in 1744 became the first to acquire aproperty there, Lugar das Lages, near the old townof Rgua. Lugar das Lages still belongs to thecompany today.

The carefully selected individual wines,are aged in a combination of oak vats and casks forthree to four years, where they gain smoothnessand elegance. They are then blended for continuityof style.
